No caretaker govt before referendum: Nahid Islam

Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has stated that forming a caretaker government before the referendum is not possible, as it is governed by the July Charter. 

He explained that the process for establishing this government has been discussed in the consensus commission, and a final decision can only be made post-referendum. 

Nahid suggested that those advocating for a caretaker government now have ulterior motives. 

He made these remarks to journalists after meeting Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna on Wednesday evening.

Nahid emphasised that the interim government was formed with a commitment to holding elections through a reform and judicial process. 

He urged the government to address allegations against advisers and restructure accordingly. 

He clarified that student advisers are not party representatives but are part of the government as representatives of the mass uprising, similar to other advisers with political affiliations. 

Nahid noted that the advisory council was formed with input from various parties, and they had informed the chief adviser about the affiliations of specific advisers.

He also accused major political parties of dividing key administrative posts, such as Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, which could compromise the government's impartiality. 

Nahid called on the chief adviser to take action to ensure the government operates fairly and to address biases within the advisory council.
