5-member committee to probe metro rail incident

The government has formed a five-member committee to probe into the incident of metro rail at Farmgate metro, causing death of a pedestrian on Sunday.

Adviser of the road transport and bridges ministries Fouzul Kabir Khan has said the committee headed by Bridges Division Secretary Abdur Rouf, will submit report within the two weeks.

The committee will also review the previous investigation report and identify why such incidents are recurring, the adviser said after visiting the spot.

He also said that the government would provide Taka 5 lakh as compensation to the victim's family and arrange employment at the metro rail for a qualified family member, if available.

According to metro rail authorities the incident took place around 12.15 pm when a bearing pad used to prevent vibration during train movement, came loose and fell on a pedestrian at Farmgate station, killing the pedestrian on the spot. 

The victim was identified as Abul Kalam of Naria upazila of Shariatpur district.

The adviser said the metro rail service from Uttara North to Agargaon part has been resumed while service from Agargaon and Motijheel will begin after necessary repairing.
