Assets of Hasina and Kamal seized; fugitives barred from appeals, says AG Asaduzzaman

Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman stated that Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, as fugitives, have no right to appeal the verdict in the crimes against humanity case delivered on Monday. 

He emphasizsed that the court has mandated the seizure and confiscation of all their assets located within Bangladesh.

The AG assured that the government will pursue every legal avenue to enforce the ruling. 

Addressing the penalties imposed, he explained, "Two defendants face the death penalty, the harshest sentence in this trial. Another, who testified as a state witness, received a five-year term following the court's comprehensive review."

He detailed the charges against Hasina, "Out of five original counts, the court merged them into three. She was given life imprisonment for superior command responsibility on one count, and death for the direct orders she issued on others."

On the timing of enforcement, Asaduzzaman clarified, "The sentences activate upon arrest, per legal provisions." 

He added that once the full judgment is obtained, authorities will scrutinise it and proceed methodically, avoiding any extralegal actions.
