Tremors felt across the country again

A fifth earthquake within a time span of four days jolted the capital and adjacent areas, with the met office measuring its magnitude to be 3.6 on the Richter scale and locating the epicentre at Ghorashal of Narsingdi on the outskirts of the capital.

“The latest quake occurred at 4:15:20 pm today. Its epicentre was at Ghorashal in Narsingdi district, 44.5 kilometres away from Dhaka,” meteorologist Shahnaj Sultana of Bangladesh Meteorological Department told BSS on Thursday.

The Met Office’s tremor monitoring centre called the quake a “mild” one but asked all to follow its previous directions, with one being setting a strong table or anything like that in a specific place of a room to take shelter during quakes instead of scurrying in panic.

Duty officer at the fire service, Rafi Al Faruk, said they received no report of damage following the jolt on Thursday.

The strongest among the five quakes, a 5.7-magnitude tremor, on early Friday jolted the capital and different areas of the country and claimed 10 lives, wounded over 600 people and damaged a number of buildings.

The epicentre of all five tremors was in different areas of Narsingdi, about 25 kilometres from the capital.
