Traders have no legal basis for increasing edible oil prices: Commerce Adviser

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that there is no legal basis for the process by which traders have increased the prices of edible oil.

The adviser said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Importers and marketing companies have silently increased the price of soybean oil at the consumer level without any announcement. This time, it has been increased by 9 taka per liter in one go. When attention was drawn to this matter, the advisor said, "The government did not know anything about increasing the price of oil. We came to know about it half an hour ago. The companies have collectively done this (increasing the price of edible oil). This act of doing this collectively is in no way acceptable."

When asked what you will do now, the adviser said, "We will discuss and decide the course of action. There is no legal basis for this."
