Finalisation of seven college ordinances in final stage: Education Ministry

Amid the movement for and against the Dhaka Central University ordinance by students in the capital, the Education Ministry has announced seven decisions and progress on the proposed 'Dhaka Central University'.

A press release sent by the ministry's public relations officer Khalid Mahmud on Monday afternoon said that the work of revising and finalising the draft of the 'Dhaka Central University Ordinance-2025' is in the final stage. 

More than 5,000 opinions received from various quarters, including students, teachers and stakeholders, on the draft ordinance are being reviewed in light of legality and reality.

The release also said that preparations are underway to organise an inter-ministerial meeting on the revised draft by December 25. At the same time, continuous discussions are continuing with the interim administration, principals, teachers and student representatives of the seven colleges.

In the 2024-25 academic year, 10,194 students have been admitted in the admission process in three units, of which 9,388 have been confirmed. An operation manual has already been approved for the new academic year.

The Ministry of Education said that teacher representatives have expressed optimism that it will be possible to start classes for new students from January 1, 2026, after the winter vacation.

The notification mentioned that special importance should be given to protecting the independence of colleges, not restricting women's education opportunities, preserving property ownership, and not disrupting secondary level education programs.

Finally, the Ministry of Education expects responsible behaviour from teachers and students, and says that everyone should be aware that students' educational lives and overall education programmes should not be affected by spreading confusion based on rumours or incomplete information.
