Osman Hadi in ICU, condition critical: Doctor

Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and an independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency for the upcoming national polls, Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, was brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition.

According to a doctor, he suffered a cardiac arrest shortly after arriving at the hospital. After administering CPR, his blood pressure was stabilised for some time. However, his condition remains very critical, and he is now admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. 

DMCH Director Brig Gen Md Asaduzzaman said Hadi was put on life support. The bullet remains lodged in his head. 

Hadi was shot at the culvert road of Bijoynagar in the capital on Friday after the Jummah prayer. DMCH police outpost in-charge, Md Faruque, said Hadi was brought to the hospital after 2:30pm. His treatment was underway immediately. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman said miscreants arrived on three motorbikes and fled after shooting Hadi.

An organiser of July Oikya, Israfil Forayeji, said Hadi was shot while he was campaigning for the upcoming polls. 

Meanwhile, followers of Hadi have gathered in front of DMCH. According to his followers, he had received various threats lately. 

BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, the BNP candidate in the same constituency, arrived at the DMCH at around 4pm to visit Hadi. 

Members of the armed forces were seen in front of the emergency department of the hospital.
