Case filed over shooting on Sharif Osman Hadi

A case has been filed regarding the attempted shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, convener and spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election.

The case was lodged at Paltan Police Station in Dhaka on Sunday night.

Paltan Police Station Duty Officer Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rakibul Hasan confirmed the development to media outlets early Monday morning (around 6:40 am on December 15).

He stated that the case pertains to the shooting incident involving Osman Hadi but noted that details about the complainant were unavailable at the time. According to him, a relative of the victim has filed the complaint.

Inspector (Operations) Yasin Mia of Paltan Police Station has been assigned to investigate the case.

The shooting occurred on Friday afternoon (December 12, 2025) along Box Culvert Road in Purana Paltan, just one day after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the 13th parliamentary election (set for February 12, 2026).

Two assailants on a motorcycle have been identified in the incident: Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), have arrested several individuals in connection with the case over the past 24-48 hours in various areas of Dhaka and nearby regions. These include associates of the main suspect, as well as the registered owner of the motorcycle used in the attack. The detainees have been handed over to police for further questioning.

The attackers approached on a motorcycle, fired at close range, and fled the scene. Hadi, who sustained a critical head injury, is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. His condition remains serious and not yet out of danger.

Arrangements have been made to transfer him to Singapore via air ambulance for advanced care, as confirmed by relevant authorities.
