172 fresh dengue cases detected overnight

Health officials on Wednesday said they recorded 172 fresh dengue cases in the past 24 hours.

"We recorded 172 fresh cases of dengue in 24 hours, ending at 8am today," a spokesman of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

"Out of the 172 fresh cases, 34 were hospitalised in Barishal division, 32 in Chattogram division, 18 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 34 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 20 in Khulna division, 21 in Mymensingh division, nine in Rajshahi division, one in Rangpur division and three in Sylhet division, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

Since the start of the dengue season this year,  Bangladesh has witnessed 409 deaths and 101,053 cases, while last year, dengue claimed 575 lives and infected 1,01,214 people in the country.
