Former councilor Bappi planned Hadi's murder, 17 accused in chargesheet: DB chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) has submitted a chargesheet against 17 individuals, including former Dhaka North City Corporation ward councillor and Jubo League leader Taijul Islam Chowdhury (known as Bappi) and Faisal Karim Masud, in the murder case of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Bin Hadi.

DB Chief Additional Commissioner Mohammad Shafiqul Islam announced this during a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Tuesday.

According to the DB chief, the assassination was carried out on the direct orders of Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, motivated by political rivalry. Of the 17 accused, 11 have been arrested so far, with ongoing efforts to apprehend the remaining six.

The incident occurred on December 12, when two assailants on a motorcycle shot Hadi in the head in Dhaka's Purana Paltan (Bijoynagar) area before fleeing the scene.

He was initially rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, then transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. On December 15, he was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on December 18.
