Civil sponsors make first-ever presentation at DSCSC overseas course orientation

For the first time, civil sponsors delivered presentations at the Overseas Course Participants’ Orientation Programme held at the Bangladesh Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC).

The four-day programme, held from Thursday (15 January) to Sunday (18 January), featured a well-coordinated group of selected civilian professionals who presented Bangladesh’s national profile, prospects, and progress to foreign military officers participating in the Staff College Course, said a press release.

Through this prestigious initiative, civil sponsors were entrusted with the responsibility of showcasing Bangladesh’s social, economic, and cultural advancement before future military leaders of allied countries. 

The civil sponsor team was led by Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam, Senior Professor of the Department of Marketing at the University of Chittagong. Under his leadership, the presentations ensured academic depth, thematic balance, and the dignity of national representation.

During the programme, Munir Hossain, Vice President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), delivered an informative presentation on the future of Bangladesh’s readymade garments sector. 

Entrepreneur and international businessman Maksud Hossain conducted an interactive session on bilateral international trade between Bangladesh and East Africa while K M Zahirul Kayum highlighted the potential of Bangladesh’s youth and the importance of the country’s demographic dividend.

In addition, Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam delivered a compelling presentation on women’s empowerment. Rafsan Chowdhury showcased Bangladesh’s culture and heritage through a presentation on festivals and fairs, while Syed Almas Kabir presented a contextual overview of Bangladesh’s history.

Other distinguished civil sponsors present at the programme included Mahmudul Haque, Monirul Islam, Fahim Sadikuzzaman, Mahbubul Haque, and Akhtaruzzaman Pavel.

The leadership of DSCSC provided active support throughout the programme. 

The Commandant of the College, Major General Chowdhury Mohammad Azizul Haque Hazari, and Deputy Commandant Air Commodore Mohammad Mahfuz Uddin were present and encouraged the civil sponsors. 

Senior officials praised the civil sponsors for their role in enhancing Bangladesh’s global image through people-to-people engagement. 

On behalf of the civil sponsors, Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam expressed sincere gratitude to the Commandant and Deputy Commandant for their leadership and support.

Stakeholders believe this initiative marks a significant milestone in the evolution of DSCSC and will further strengthen professional relations between the armed forces and civilian professionals.
