BCB decides to bring Shakib Al Hasan back into the fold

In a significant development for Bangladesh cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has resolved to reinstate Shakib Al Hasan for selection in the national team. This decision was finalized during the BCB board meeting held on Saturday.

Amjad Hossain, chairman of the BCB's media committee, confirmed that Shakib Al Hasan will now be considered for selection in all upcoming home and away series. He emphasised that Shakib must maintain his fitness to be eligible for inclusion.

Although Shakib may miss the upcoming T20 World Cup, the next assignment for the Bangladesh national team is scheduled for March, when Pakistan visits for a three-match ODI series. It is widely anticipated that Shakib Al Hasan will make his return to international cricket during this series. The board has also taken responsibility for addressing any pending issues or cases related to Shakib.

Shakib's most recent appearance for the national team was in a Test match against India in Kanpur on September 27, 2024. Following political changes in the country, there were concerns within the BCB about potential public protests and backlash, which prevented him from playing what was intended to be his farewell Test against South Africa. He had to depart from Dubai and return to the United States instead.

In a recent interview conducted from Dubai, Shakib expressed his strong desire to return home and bid a proper farewell to the national team in front of familiar home supporters. The BCB has now given the official approval for his comeback. Additionally, the board has decided to include Shakib under a central contract moving forward.
