Interim Govt not implementing new pay scale: Energy Adviser

On the matter of introducing a new national pay scale for government employees, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, clarified that the Pay Commission’s report has merely been accepted in principle. 

He emphasised that the current interim government has not yet made any decision regarding its actual implementation. 

He further noted that the tenure of this interim government is extremely short—only about 15 days—and therefore, no steps will be taken on this issue during its remaining period.

The Adviser made these remarks while responding to journalists’ questions following today’s meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement, held at the Secretariat. 

Since the Finance Adviser was unwell, the Power Adviser took the opportunity to brief the media on the government’s stance concerning the Pay Commission recommendations as well as other pressing economic matters.

He explained that a committee, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, has already been constituted to thoroughly review the Pay Commission’s suggestions. The final decision on whether and how to implement the new pay structure will be left to the incoming elected government.

Through these statements, the Energy Advisor has provided a straightforward and unambiguous clarification amid the ongoing public discussions and uncertainty surrounding the new pay scale for government servants. 

He pointed out that government employees had been demanding the formation of a Pay Commission for a prolonged period of 10 to 15 years. In response to that long-standing demand, the commission was eventually established, conducted its work, and eventually submitted its report.

Nevertheless, the present interim administration has refrained from taking any concrete decision to put those recommendations into effect, he added.
