Price of 12 kg LPG increased, effective from evening

The retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Bangladesh's private sector has risen by Tk 4.21 per kg. 

Consequently, the price of a standard 12-kg cylinder has been set at Tk 1,356, up from Tk 1,306 in January—an increase of Tk 50.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Jalal Ahmed announced the revised prices during a press conference on Monday. 

The new rates took effect from 6:00 pm the same day.

BERC reviews and sets LPG prices monthly. 

In response to media questions, Chairman Ahmed noted that the adjustment aligns with legal guidelines and reflects market factors, including limited supply driving higher prices. 

He added that efforts are underway to boost imports and improve availability.

The price for a 12.5-kg LPG cylinder supplied by government companies remains unchanged at Tk 825. 

Meanwhile, the price of autogas (LPG used in vehicles) has increased to Tk 62.14 per liter, up from Tk 59.80 last month.

The country continues to face a severe LPG shortage, with government-fixed price cylinders often unavailable at many outlets. This has led to uncontrolled market prices and significant hikes beyond official rates.

In mid-January 2026, the government granted in-principle approval to the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) to import LPG directly amid rising prices and supply issues. 

BPC will handle imports on a government-to-government (G2G) basis but will not engage in storage, bottling, or distribution—these will remain with private operators. 

Potential sourcing countries include Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and Qatar.

Energy Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan stated that this import initiative aims to enhance market supply and help stabilise prices. 

The permission followed a January 10 letter from BPC to the Secretary of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division requesting authorisation.
