US ambassador hears government's initiatives on election security

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen was briefed on the interim government's initiatives to ensure security for the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections and the concurrent national referendum, both scheduled for February 12.

The meeting took place on Wednesday with Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. 

According to a post on the US Embassy in Dhaka's Facebook page, Ambassador Christensen appreciated the opportunity to hear directly about these efforts from the adviser. 

Discussions also covered potential areas for security cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

The US Embassy highlighted that the ambassador expressed appreciation for the direct briefing on the government's preparations to maintain a secure and peaceful electoral environment.

This follows Ambassador Christensen's earlier meeting on January 28 with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission in Agargaon, Dhaka. 

After that discussion, he expressed keen interest in the February 12 elections and anticipation for the results.

Ambassador Brent T. Christensen arrived in Dhaka on January 12, 2026, to assume his role as the 18th US Ambassador to Bangladesh. 

He previously served at the US Embassy in Dhaka as Counselor for Political and Economic Affairs from 2019 to 2021.
