Cabinet oath-taking to be completed by February 18, says Cabinet Secretary

Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid announced that the oath-taking ceremony for the new cabinet will be completed by February 18.

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Saturday, he expressed hope that the event would take place within the next three to four days.

He explained that preparations are already in place and fully flexible. If the decision comes for the ceremony to happen on Sunday or the day after, arrangements will proceed accordingly. The same readiness applies even if it is scheduled three days later.

When asked about the exact timing and venue, the Cabinet Secretary noted that such details are handled by the Parliament Secretariat.

He mentioned having only informal information so far and preferred not to comment further on it.

Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid outlined the possible options for administering the oaths.

Normally, the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, or someone nominated by them would conduct the ceremony. If that is not possible, the government may nominate an alternative.

In certain cases, the Chief Justice or the Chief Election Commissioner could also be called upon to administer the oaths.

He added that approximately 1,000 domestic and foreign guests are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the cabinet members.
