CEC can administer oath to MPs, President to cabinet members: Asif Nazrul

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) will administer the oath to members of parliament (MPs), while the President will administer the oath to cabinet members, according to Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul.

He shared this information while speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon.

Asif Nazrul explained that the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected members of parliament and the new cabinet has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 17, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.

The oath-taking for MPs is set for 10 am, followed by the cabinet's oath-taking at 4 pm.

He noted that he believes the CEC will handle the MPs' oaths, and the President will oversee the cabinet's. The decision to hold the cabinet oath at the South Plaza aligns with the BNP's preference.

Regarding invitations, Asif Nazrul said these will follow established conventions and are being managed by the Cabinet Division.

He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended invitations to the foreign ministers of SAARC countries, but he was unaware of any invitations to prime ministers.

When asked about his own potential inclusion in the upcoming cabinet, the legal adviser replied that there is no question of his presence in it.
