ICT verdict in Rampura crimes against humanity case March 4

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has set March 4 for delivering its verdict in a case involving crimes against humanity committed in Dhaka's Rampura area during the July Mass Uprising.

In the incident, a youth was shot repeatedly while hanging from a building cornice, and two others were killed.

The tribunal fixed the date on Sunday after both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments, with an order passed on February 3 to determine the verdict timeline.

The prosecution submitted formal charges against five accused on August 7, 2025, alleging that police opened fire on a student hanging from the building cornice in Rampura and killed two others in the area.

On September 18, ICT-1 framed charges against former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Assistant Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Khilgaon Zone Md Rashedul Islam, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Md Moshiur Rahman, former Sub-Inspector Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan, and former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chanchal Chandra Sarkar.

Among the five accused, only Chanchal Chandra Sarkar has been arrested and is currently facing trial in person.
