High Court orders schools to remain closed during Ramadan

The High Court has ordered that all government and private lower secondary and secondary schools remain closed throughout the month of Ramadan.

The bench comprising Justice Fahmida and Justice Md. Asif Hasan issued the order on Sunday.

Although madrasas had already begun their Ramadan holidays from February 15, regular classes in schools were earlier scheduled to continue until March 7. Many teachers had expressed dissatisfaction with this arrangement.

Following the High Court directive, all such schools will now stay closed throughout Ramadan starting from February 18.

The order came in response to a writ petition seeking to ensure students receive holidays from the very beginning of Ramadan.

Earlier, on January 5, a Supreme Court lawyer had served a legal notice to the government demanding that schools be kept closed during the month of Ramadan.
