NCP signs July Charter

The National Citizens Party (NCP) has formally signed the July National Charter, a key political document outlining constitutional, electoral, and administrative reforms stemming from the 2024 July uprising in Bangladesh.

The signing took place on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the State Guest House Jamuna, in the presence of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. 

Representing the NCP, party Convener Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain affixed their signatures to the charter.

Also present were National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, commission member Badiul Alam Majumder, and Monir Haider, special assistant to the Chief Adviser.

Expressing his appreciation, Chief Adviser Yunus stated, "The nation had faith that the NCP would sign this charter. Today, that faith has been fulfilled—the July National Charter is complete. Thank you to the NCP for participating in this great work." 

He emphasised the need for constant vigilance to ensure the document guides the building of a humane new Bangladesh. 

He also noted that the oath-taking ceremony for newly elected members of parliament would occur the following day on Tuesday, wishing everyone success in the days ahead.

Nahid Islam remarked that the NCP's elected parliament members would take their oaths on Tuesday. 

"We are going to take two oaths at the same time," he said, referring to the parliamentary oath and the commitment to the charter. 

"We will implement the trust that the people of the country have placed in us." 

He added that although the NCP was the last to sign the charter, the party had been among the most active in working to implement its principles.

The NCP delegation also included Monira Sharmin, Sarwar Tushar, Javed Rasin, and Zahirul Islam.
