Armed gang of teenagers attacks factory over unpaid ransom, 5 arrested

Police arrested five individuals, including Rohan Khan Russell, the leader of a teenage gang, in connection with an extortion attempt and armed attack on an embroidery factory in Dhaka's Adabor area. 

The arrests took place during a raid in various parts of Adabor on Saturday night. 

The other four detained are Maruf, Hasan, Raihan, and Roman. 

Authorities noted that Russell faces multiple cases and leads local gang members in various criminal activities under his command.

The incident occurred around 9:30 pm on Saturday at the embroidery factory in Mansurabad, Adabor, where owner Abir was distributing salaries to workers. 

Russell and three to four associates initially entered demanding extortion money, sparking an argument with the workers. 

Outnumbered, they fled after being chased but soon returned with 12-14 gang members armed with sharp weapons like choppers. 

They assaulted the factory, attempting to snatch cash and mobile phones from the workers, injuring two in the process before escaping.

Angry workers and local businessmen protested in front of Adabor police station around 10 pm, demanding the attackers' arrest, leading to a case being filed that night at the station.

Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Ibne Mizan informed that the five, including Russell as the juvenile gang leader, were arrested overnight following the raid, with Russell having prior multiple cases against him.

Responding to journalists after a Sunday meeting at the Secretariat chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed acknowledged hearing about such incidents, stating he had instructed relevant authorities to investigate thoroughly and submit a report, promising strict action if confirmed.
