12 kg LPG price reduced by Tk15

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the consumer-level price of private liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and autogas following a change in value-added tax (VAT) policy. 

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) withdrew VAT at the production stage and imposed it at the import stage at 7.5 percent, prompting this quick revision.

The price of a popular 12 kg LPG cylinder has dropped by Tk15, now selling at Tk1,341 taka, down from Tk1,356. 

This new rate took effect from 6 pm on Monday. 

At the retailer level, private LPG is fixed at Tk111.79 per kg with VAT, leading to the updated cylinder prices: 5.5 kg at Tk615, 15 kg at Tk1,677, and 45 kg at Tk5,031. 

For LPG supplied through reticulated systems, the price is set at Tk108.04 per kg with VAT.

Autogas used in transportation has also been revised to Tk61.86 per liter.

The price of government-supplied LPG remains unchanged, with the 12.50 kg cylinder from LP Gas Limited continuing at Tk776.93.

BERC emphasised that no one can sell LPG or autogas above these fixed prices at any stage. Distributors must issue VAT invoices or delivery orders, and legal action will follow if overcharging is proven.

This adjustment follows the previous increase on February 2, when the 12 kg cylinder rose by Tk50 to Tk1,356, driven by international factors. 

The latest change came swiftly after the February 16 notification from the Ministry of Finance's Internal Revenue Department on the new import VAT rate.
