Light tremor jolts country

A mild earthquake of 4.6 magnitude on the Richter scale shook various parts of Bangladesh, including the capital Dhaka, around noon on Thursday.

The tremor struck at 12:04:05 pm (BST), according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Its epicentre was in Gyalshing, West Sikkim, India, roughly 455 km northwest of the BMD's seismic monitoring centre in Agargaon, Dhaka, it said. 

BMD meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana described it as a mild quake that was felt in several areas.

This comes just after a moderate 5.1 magnitude earthquake rattled different parts of the country on Wednesday. 

That event's epicentre was in Myanmar, about 462 km east of the Agargaon seismic centre.

No immediate reports of damage or injuries have found from the tremor.
