Bangladeshi killed, two injured in missile strike in Bahrain

A Bangladeshi expatriate from Sandwip has been killed in a missile strike in Bahrain. The deceased has been identified as Abul Mohsin Tareq (48), a resident of the Paharer Go Masjid area under Azimpur Union in Sandwip.

Two other Bangladeshis were also injured in the incident, which occurred while they were on duty at a dry-dock shipyard.

Md. Rais Hasan Sarwar, the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Bahrain, confirmed the fatality. This incident follows a similar missile strike in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) the previous Sunday, which also claimed the life of another Bangladeshi.

According to reports, the tragedy occurred on Monday morning (local time) when missile debris fell onto a ship in a maritime area near the capital, Manama. Tareq had been working in Bahrain for 27 years and was the primary breadwinner for his family.

His cousin, Mosharraf Hossain, Deputy Director of the Chittagong Maa-O-Shishu Hospital, confirmed the news via social media.

Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Defense reported that a missile strike on Sunday killed three people, including one Bangladeshi, and injured 58 others. The fatalities included citizens from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Nepal. The injured individuals comprise nationals from the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, and Afghanistan. Authorities noted that most of the injuries were minor.

The strikes are part of a series of retaliatory operations launched by Iran in the Persian Gulf region in response to attacks by the United States and Israel.
