ACC chairman, two commissioners resign

Chairman of Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and two commissioners - Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi (Investigation) and Brigadier General (Retd.) Hafiz Ahsan Farid (Investigation) - have resigned from their positions.

They submitted their resignation letters to the Cabinet Division Secretary around 2:30 pm on Tuesday and departed the ACC office shortly after, at approximately 2:45 pm.

As he left the office and spoke to journalists, Dr. Abdul Momen explained that the team had made every effort to curb and prevent corruption during the interim government period.

With the arrival of the elected government, which brings its own perspectives and approaches to shaping the ACC in the current environment, they sensed this shift and chose to resign accordingly.

He expressed hope that more qualified individuals might join the commission in the future.

When asked to assess their performance, he replied that it is the media's responsibility to evaluate their work.

Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, a Senior Secretary appointed on contract, was selected as ACC Chairman by the interim government under Muhammad Yunus on December 12, 2024.

The other two commissioners—retired District Judge Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi (Investigation) and retired Brigadier General Hafiz Ahsan Farid—were appointed on December 10, 2024, with Azizi joining on December 11 and Farid on December 15.
