Woman teacher of Islamic University stabbed to death

Asma Sadia Runa, the chairperson and assistant professor of the Department of Social Welfare at Islamic University in Kushtia, was stabbed to death on Wednesday afternoon. 

The incident took place around 4 pm in room 226 of the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies building.

The attacker was Fazlur Rahman, an employee who had previously worked in the Social Welfare Department for a long time. He was transferred to the Department of Political Science about a month earlier following a dispute with the department chairperson over a salary increase. 

Witnesses reported that after stabbing Asma Sadia Runa, Fazlur Rahman attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the throat in the same room.

The attack occurred on the day the department was hosting an Iftar mahfil. Students and Ansar members stationed below the building heard screams from the chairperson's room and found the door locked from the inside. 

Despite repeated knocking, there was no response, so they broke down the door and discovered Asma Sadia Runa's bloodied body on the floor while Fazlur Rahman was in the process of self-inflicting wounds.

They immediately alerted the university's proctorial body and the nearby police station. 

Authorities arrived, recovered both individuals, and rushed them to the university medical center in critical condition before transferring them to Kushtia Sadar Hospital. 

Hossain Imam, the Resident Medical Officer at the hospital, confirmed that Asma Sadia Runa arrived in extremely critical condition due to severe blood loss from multiple stab wounds on her neck, hands, and feet. 

She was declared dead upon arrival, with her death later verified through an ECG.

Students and campus sources suggest the incident stemmed from lingering resentment over the earlier argument and transfer.
