Anis Alamgir granted bail in a case

The High Court has granted bail to senior journalist Anis Alamgir in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act. 

The bench, consisting of Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher, issued the order on Thursday after hearing the petition and declaring the rule appropriate.

Lawyer Tamanna Ferdous represented Anis Alamgir during the hearing and later confirmed the development to journalists.

However, immediate release is not possible, as multiple other cases remain pending against him.

Anis Alamgir has been in jail since late December last year following his arrest in this Anti-Terrorism Act case lodged with Uttara Paschim Police Station in the capital.

On December 14 last year, he was picked up from a gym in Dhanmondi and taken to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) office for questioning. 

He was subsequently shown arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The next day, December 15, he was produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka, where the magistrate ordered remand. 

After the remand period, he was sent to jail on December 20 and has remained in custody since then.

Earlier, on January 22, the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court had rejected his bail petition in this case.
