Journalist Anis Alamgir released from jail after three months

Journalist Anis Alamgir has been released from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur after spending three months in custody. 

He walked free around 2:30 pm on Saturday once his bail documents were processed by prison authorities, as confirmed by Senior Jail Superintendent Al Mamun.

Anis Alamgir was initially arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch (DB) Intelligence Department from a gym in Dhanmondi on the night of December 14 last year. 

The following day, December 15, he was shown arrested at Uttara Paschim Police Station in a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The court subsequently granted a five-day remand, after which he was sent to jail.

The High Court granted him bail in the Anti-Terrorism Act case on March 5. Separately, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against him on January 15, accusing him of acquiring undisclosed assets worth approximately Tk 3.26 crore. 

His application was accepted, and a Dhaka court granted bail in this ACC case on March 11 (Wednesday), removing the final legal barrier to his release.

With bail secured in both cases, Anis Alamgir was freed from jail two days later on Saturday afternoon.
