Padma-Jamuna Bridge sets record for vehicle crossing, toll collection

The Padma Bridge and Jamuna Bridge have set new records for vehicle crossings and toll collection during the Eid travel period. 

According to a press release from the bridge authorities issued on Friday morning, a total of 119,682 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge from March 17 to 19 this year, marking a sharp increase from just 1,00802 vehicles during the same three-day period last year. 

Toll collections over these three days reached Tk 13,21,51,800, compared to only Tk 12,78,400 in the previous year, establishing fresh highs in both categories.

For the Jamuna Bridge, March 18 saw the highest single-day traffic with 51,384 vehicles crossing, surpassing the previous record of 48,368 set in 2025. 

Toll revenue on that day amounted to Tk 3, 51,82, 600, exceeding the prior one-day peak of Tk 3,46, 27,850 from the year before.

Authorities noted that despite the intense traffic volume this year, no major accidents occurred and prolonged jams were avoided, thanks to effective management and constant oversight that kept traffic flowing smoothly.

To facilitate a flawless Eid journey, several proactive measures were implemented, such as training toll collectors and deploying skilled personnel, maintaining toll lanes operational around the clock, adding dedicated lanes for motorcycles, introducing non-stop electronic toll collection (ETC), opening bus bays at Mawa and Elenga, monitoring via surveillance cameras, establishing a high-level round-the-clock monitoring team, adopting accident prevention strategies, offering emergency aid and medical support to travelers, bolstering security across bridge points, preparing rapid rescue operations with heavy wreckers, and activating emergency toll lanes.

Mohammad Abdur Rouf, Secretary of the Bridges Division and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridges Authority, highlighted that this year's Eid travel experience was so far notably safer and more comfortable, crediting the government's overall direction and the coordinated dedication of all involved parties. 

He affirmed that similar forward-thinking initiatives will persist to deliver modern, efficient road management in the years ahead.
