PM exchanges Eid greetings with commoners at Jamuna

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is exchanging Eid greetings with politicians, diplomats from various countries posted in Dhaka, academicians and representatives of various classes and professions and people from all walks of life. 

At that time, the Prime Minister's wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman accompanied the premier.

The greeting exchange ceremony began at 10 am on Saturday at the State Guest House Jamuna. 

Earlier, Tarique Rahman entered the Jamuna after offering prayers at the National Eidgah at 8:30 am. Then the main gate was opened for invited guests from 9:15 am. 

Politicians, diplomats and senior journalists, including people from various classes and professions, met in this. Among them, former Chief Adviser of the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus also participated in the Eid greeting exchange ceremony.

During the Eid greeting exchange, the Prime Minister shook hands and hugged many people. He went to many people and inquired about their health. Many people became emotional after getting close to the head of the country's government. They also took selfies with him. There was a special reception for the guests. 

However, many could not enter due to the excessive crowd even after being invited. Only card holders were allowed to enter.

Meanwhile, people started pouring towards Jamuna since morning to exchange Eid greetings with the Prime Minister. 

Party leaders and activists, representatives of different classes and professions, and the general public started gathering in groups at Jamuna premises. 

As time passed, the crowd also increased. 

The presence of people in five serials spread from in front of the main gate to beyond the front road and up to Kakrail and Hotel Intercontinental intersection. 

Law enforcement officers were seen actively present throughout the area to maintain security and order.

This morning, President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman participated in the main Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at the National Eidgah Maidan in the High Court premises and offered prayers. 

The main congregation was held at 8:30 am.

BNP's then senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman had to leave the country for London in the second week of September 2008. He had last celebrated Eid in the country in 2007. 

This is Tarique Rahman's first Eid after returning to the country on December 25, 2025, after a 19-year exile.
