12 killed in bus-train collision in Cumilla

Rail communication with Chittagong across the country has been suspended following the death of 12 bus passengers after a train hit them at a level crossing in Cumilla.
After the accident late at night, a rescue train from Akhaura reached the spot at around 8 am on Sunday and started rescue work.
The accident-hit train was seen being moved to the Cumilla railway station at around 10:30 am.
However, rail communication was not normalised till the time of writing this report at 10:15 pm.
Cumilla Deputy Commissioner Md. Reza Hasan went to the spot on Sunday morning.
He told reporters, "We will provide Tk 25,000 each to the deceased from the district administration."
Investigation committee
The District Administrator said that the district administration and the railway have formed three separate investigation committees to investigate the accident.
The district administration has formed a five-member committee headed by Additional District Magistrate Md. Zafar Sadiq Chowdhury.
Mostafizur Rahman, Divisional Manager of the Chittagong Division of Railways, said, "Two more investigation committees, divisional and zonal, have been formed by the railways. Once the rescue work is completed, rail communication with Chittagong will start. Whose negligence caused the accident can be said after the investigation."
