Jet fuel price hiked by Tk 90 per liter

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has sharply increased the price of jet fuel for both domestic and international flights.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, BERC announced the new prices, which took effect from midnight the same day.

The price of jet fuel on domestic routes has been raised from Tk 112.41 to Tk 202.29 per liter—an increase of Tk 89.88 per liter, or roughly 80 percent.

For international flights, the price has been increased from US$ 0.7384 to US$ 1.3216 per liter, representing an increase of about 79 percent.

According to BERC, the adjustment was made in line with current market conditions, import costs, and trends in the international energy market. 

The revised prices will remain in force until further notice, it said.

Stakeholders have warned that this significant hike in jet fuel prices is likely to push up airfares, particularly on domestic routes, putting extra financial pressure on passengers. 

Airlines operating international flights will also face higher operating costs as a result.
