Charges filed against 22, including Hasan Mahmud, in crimes against humanity case

The prosecution has submitted formal charges against 22 individuals, including former Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud Chowdhury, in a case involving crimes against humanity related to the killing of six people, including Chhatra Dal leader Wasim, during the July uprising. 

Prosecutor Farooq Ahmed filed the complaint with the Registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday.

The other accused include former Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former MP ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, former Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Rezaul Karim, Mohiuddin Bachchu, Helal Akbar, Nurul Azim Roni, Shoibal Das Sumon, Mohammad Firoz, Abu Salek, Esbarul Haque, HM Mithu, Nur Mostafa Tinu, Debashish Pal Debu, Zamir Uddin, Azizur Rahman, Imran Hasan Mahmud, Zakaria Dastagir, Mohiuddin Farhad, Sumon Dey, and Touhidul Islam.

All the accused are linked to the Awami League and its affiliated organisations. 

The prosecution is also expected to seek arrest warrants against 18 of the accused who are currently absconding.

Although the investigation report was due to be submitted on April 12, the investigation agency had already provided its findings to the Chief Prosecutor.
