Bodies of father, son recovered in Tongi

The bodies of a father and his teenage son have been recovered in the Dattapara Banmala area of Tongi, Gazipur, in a suspected double murder that has left local authorities questioning the victims’ eldest son. 

Police discovered the body of seventeen-year-old Sakib Hossain inside the family home on Sunday morning. 

The young man had been gagged with cloth, strangled, and had suffered severe cuts to the veins in both his hands. 

A short distance away, the body of his fifty-one-year-old father, Md. Sohel Rana, was found lying on the adjacent Banmala railway line, bearing injuries consistent with being struck by a train. 

Local sources revealed that Sohel Rana had previously worked as an expatriate in Singapore and Malaysia. 

Following the death of his wife from illness a year ago, he had been residing at the residence with his two sons. The younger victim, Sakib, was a class eleven student at a private college in the capital’s Uttara and had been working part-time to support himself. 

The eldest son, Saibur Rahman Sohan, is employed by a private organisation. 

Authorities believe the murders occurred sometime during the night on Saturday. Sohan, who was sleeping in an adjoining room, has been taken into police custody for questioning. 

The elder brother claims he was unaware of the incident, stating he did not understand what had happened as he had fallen asleep immediately after returning from a night shift at his workplace. 

Officer-in-Charge of Tongi East Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, confirmed that investigations are actively continuing. While Sohan is currently being interrogated, the officer noted that the circumstances surrounding the deaths appear highly suspicious. 

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the morgue at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College in Gazipur for post-mortem examinations, and police are preparing to take formal legal action as the inquiry unfolds.
