Mother, two daughters crushed to death by falling tree in Jamalpur Kalbaishakhi storm

A mother and her two daughters were killed early Monday when a powerful Kalbaishakhi storm uprooted a large tree, collapsing it onto their home in the Melandah Upazila of Jamalpur district. 

The victims were identified as Khuki Begum, 65, and her daughters, Farida Akhter, 40, and Fateh Akhter, 37. 

The family resided in the Dagi area of Nayanagar Union.

The fatal incident occurred around 3:30 am, according to local residents and fire service officials. 

Authorities report the three women were sleeping together in the same bed when a massive mahogany tree, snapped by strong winds, crashed directly onto the house. 

The victims were pinned beneath the tree and died instantly. 

Because of the early hour and the severity of the damage, the bodies remained trapped in the debris until daybreak. 

Locals, alongside police and fire service personnel who rushed to the scene after being alerted, later recovered the bodies from the wreckage. 

Melandah Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Jinnatul Ara formally confirmed the deaths on Monday morning.
