Zunaid Ahmed Palak tells court he was injured in prison van accident

Former State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has told the court that he was injured in a police prison van accident. 

He said the accident took place on April 19 while he was being taken from the court to the prison.

He made the statement in a Dhaka court on Tuesday. The judge later advised him to seek necessary medical treatment.

Appearing at the charge-framing hearing of a case from Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-4, Palak informed the court that on April 19, after the hearing, the police prison van met with an accident on the way from the court to the prison, and he was injured.

Later, when the matter was presented in court through his lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, the judge recorded the statement and advised Palak to seek medical treatment.

Palak’s lawyer said that Palak and several others in the van were injured in the accident. After the court was informed, the judge issued instructions regarding his treatment.

Meanwhile, prison authorities claimed that no one was injured in the accident. Assistant Inspector General (Development) of the Prisons Department Jannat-ul Farhad told Daily Samakal, “A week ago, the prison van collided with a motorcycle on its way back from the court to the prison. However, it did not cause any serious damage. Although Zunaid Ahmed Palak was in that van, neither he nor anyone else was injured.”
