Most of those martyred in July Uprising were workers: State Minister Amit

State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said that most of those who were martyred in the July Uprising were workers. 

He emphasised that the government therefore has a firm commitment to return jobs to the workers. The government has taken various initiatives to resolve the employment crisis and to reopen closed government factories, he said, adding that it is also working to ensure fair wages for the workers.

The State Minister made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a rally organised by the Jashore District Administration ahead of the May Day programme on Friday morning. 

He added that the government is striving to bring a little more prosperity to the families of workers through the Krishak Card and Family Card. The government has waived agricultural loans of up to Tk10,000 along with interest for farmers. To compensate for the losses suffered by farmers whose crops were damaged due to heavy rains in the haor region, the government will provide them with special food assistance for the next three months. These initiatives are meant for the workers and the common marginalised people, and they will help build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.

After his speech, the State Minister inaugurated the colourful May Day rally by releasing a balloon festoon. The rally paraded through the important roads of the city and concluded at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Hasan, Jashore Police Superintendent Syed Rafiqul Islam, District BNP President Advocate Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, and leaders of various labour unions, among others, also spoke at the rally and the discussion meeting.
