Body of child recovered three days after disappearance, family alleges murder

The body of nine-year-old Fatema Akter Poli was recovered three days after she went missing in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria. 

Police found the body in a pond at Masterpara in Debigram area of Akhaura Municipality on Saturday morning.

Poli, a third-grade student at a local madrasa, was the daughter of a auto-rickshaw driver. Her father, Helal Mia, filed a missing diary with Akhaura Police Station on Friday night after searching unsuccessfully for her. 

He expressed suspicion over the circumstances, noting that the Debigram area had been searched earlier without result.

Poli’s elder brother, Russell Mia, said the condition of the body suggested murder. The family has demanded justice.

Akhaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jabed ul Islam said a missing diary was filed and police recovered the body after receiving information. 

The exact cause of death will be determined following autopsy, he added.
