Flying Academy planned for Bogura, says Aviation Minister

The Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, M Rashiduzzaman Millat, has announced plans to establish a Flying Academy in Bogura along with the development of a new airport there.

Speaking at the conclusion of the first session of the second day of the Deputy Commissioners’ conference held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Monday, 

Millat said that initiatives have been taken to start several airports, beginning with Thakurgaon followed by Bogura. 

“We are going to Bogura on the 7th to see. We also want an airport in Bogura. Along with that, we also want to set up a ‘Flying Academy’ there, so that we can train pilots. We need many pilots. Poor, talented students can also study there if they want to become pilots,” he stated.

The minister added that the feasibility of establishing the Flying Academy would be examined alongside the airport project in Bogura. 

He expressed confidence that the academy would be set up very quickly because the team would visit on the 7th. He also mentioned plans to develop the existing small academy in Nilphamari.

Millat notes, “It takes a lot of money to train a pilot and that many pilots trained in Bangladesh go abroad to work for foreign airlines. Previously, a large portion of pilots came only from the families of existing pilots or their relatives. The government now wants to open the aviation sector so that talented individuals from all backgrounds can become pilots and work both in domestic and international airlines. This would significantly increase foreign exchange earnings for the country. That is why two academies are being established with great importance, he explained.”
