5 family members murdered in Gazipur, householder absconding

Five members of a family, including three children, were brutally murdered by having their throats slit in Rautkona village of Kapasia upazila on Friday night. 

The incident came to light on Saturday morning, sending shockwaves through the locality.

The victims were identified as Sharmin Akhter (30), wife of Forkan Mia, their daughters Meem (15), Maria (8) and Faria (2), and Forkan Mia’s brother-in-law Rasul Mia (22). 

According to police, the bodies were discovered inside a rented house belonging to Monir Hossain, an expatriate. 

Three of the children were found lying on the floor, Rasul Mia’s body was on a bed, and Sharmin was found tied to a window with a rope.

Gazipur Police Superintendent Md. Sharif Uddin confirmed the killings, saying all five were murdered by slitting their throats. Teams from Kapasia Police Station immediately rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.

Police Inspector (Investigation) Zubair Hossain said Forkan Mia, a private car driver from Gopalganj district, had been renting the house for about a year. He is suspected to be the prime accused in the murders and has gone into hiding. Police believe the incident stemmed from a family dispute.

A massive manhunt has been launched to arrest the fugitive Forkan Mia.
