Notification issued declaring 7-day holiday for Eid-ul-Azha

The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a notification declaring a public holiday on May 25 for all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous and private offices across the country on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha.

The holiday was announced in a notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Jannatul Ferdous on Thursday.

The notification states that offices will be closed for seven consecutive days from May 25 to May 31 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. 

However, to coordinate this holiday, all offices in the country will be open on the previous weekly holidays - May 23 and May 24.

The notification also states that emergency services such as electricity, water, gas and other fuels, fire service, port activities, cleaning activities, telephone and internet, postal services and vehicles and employees engaged in these related services will be excluded from the scope of this holiday.

In addition, doctors and staff engaged in medical services, vehicles and staff carrying medical equipment including medicines, and offices related to emergency work will be excluded from the scope of this holiday.

The notification further stated that Bangladesh Bank will issue necessary instructions regarding the continuation of banking activities and the Supreme Court regarding the activities of the courts.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Labour and Employment will issue necessary instructions in accordance with the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 regarding the declaration of general holidays for private sector industrial establishments or factories and institutions, the notification stated.
