2 more children die of measles with symptoms in Sylhet

Two more children have died in Bangladesh with measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, while 961 children were admitted to hospital during this period. 

Of those admitted, 108 have been diagnosed with measles.

This information was disclosed in a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday. 

The release confirmed that the two children died of measles symptoms in Sylhet.

The total number of children who have died of measles and its symptoms since March 15 now stands at 453. This includes 379 deaths from measles symptoms and 74 confirmed measles deaths.

According to the DGHS, 56,572 children have shown symptoms of measles since March 15. Of these, 41,028 were admitted to hospital, and 36,645 have recovered and returned home. A total of 7,524 children have been diagnosed with measles during this period.

Experts have noted that the situation is worsening due to low vaccination coverage, lack of awareness, and delayed treatment. They have emphasised the need to strengthen rapid vaccination programmes and increase public awareness to control the outbreak.
