Writ filed seeking ban on leaving country for Dr Yunus, former advisers

A writ has been filed in the High Court seeking an investigation into the role of former chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus and his advisory council members, calling the interim government's decision to cancel the nationwide measles vaccination programme "criminal negligence". 

At the same time, the writ has sought a ban on leaving the country for 24 people, including Dr Yunus, including all former advisers.

The writ was filed with the relevant branch of the High Court on Sunday by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M Ashraful Islam.

In addition to forming an investigation committee into the incident, a ban on leaving the country has been sought against all members of the advisory council, including Dr Yunus.

In addition to the Cabinet Secretary, the Secretaries of Health, Home Affairs and Public Administration and the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, as well as concerned government officials, have been made defendants in the case.

Earlier, notices were sent to those concerned on April 6 regarding the issue of measles vaccination being given from the state system to the private sector.

Barrister Mohammad Ashraful Islam said that there has been a serious outbreak of measles, a suddenly extinct disease, across the country. More than 400 children have already died and countless children and ordinary citizens are hospitalised due to measles.

He also said that since the provision of measles vaccines from the state system to the private sector is involved in nefarious criminal activities, an investigation committee has been formed and an investigation has been demanded, and Dr Muhammad Yunus, Dr Asif Nazrul, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adilur Rahman Khan Shuvro, Nur Jahan Begum, retired Brigadier General Sakhawat Hossain, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Mostafa Sarwar Farooqui and all advisers, former chief adviser's press secretary Shafiqul Alam and all related former personal assistants, imposing a travel ban on them until the investigation is completed.
