Media Commission to be formed, advisory committee by June: Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said that the government is going to form a media commission in the country for integrated regulation. 

A draft proposal will be presented to the government by forming an advisory committee in this regard by June.

The Information Minister said this at a press conference on the progress of various government activities at the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID) at the Secretariat on Tuesday. 

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman, Chief Information Officer of the PID Syed Abdal Ahmed and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information Md. Yasin were also present at the time.

Swapan said that he has announced a commitment to form a media commission to keep it under integrated regulation. This has been stated in the election manifesto and the BNP’s 31-point state reform programme. They want to move towards that goal. Progress is being made and all stakeholders are now on a joint journey with this goal. 

On the instructions of the Prime Minister, a consultative committee will be formed by June and a draft proposal will be presented to the government, he said, hoping that it will be possible to submit this proposal to the government by July.
