Emergency alarm being installed in hospitals for safety of doctors, health workers

The government has announced plans to introduce a central emergency alarm system or ‘Pagla Ghanta’ in major government hospitals in the capital to strengthen the safety of doctors, health workers and patients. 

In the first phase, this system will be introduced in Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.

Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul gave this information at a ceremony to hand over ventilators and other medical equipment received as donations at the Central Medical Store (CMSD) in Tejgaon on Tuesday.

The health minister said that initiatives have been taken to launch a ‘Code Blue’ or emergency alarm system to ensure quick security assistance in case of an emergency situation in the hospital. 

At the same time, there are plans to set up a separate police camp in the Mohakhali area to increase the security of health-related establishments, he added.

He also said at the ceremony that one child ventilator has been provided for each of the 10 ICU units in the country’s 10 district headquarters hospitals. 

The government is planning to inaugurate these units within a week after the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
