Pallabi child murder trial to begin after Eid: Law Minister

If the investigation report of the Pallabi child rape and murder case is received quickly, it will be possible to start the trial of the case after Eid, said Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman. 

He said, “We want to start the trial of this case on a priority basis in such a way that there are no questions.”

The Law Minister said that DNA reports are very important in such cases. It should not take more than 72 hours to prepare the DNA report. In that case, he hopes that the DNA report will be available soon.

He said these things at a workshop titled ‘Integrated Initiatives, Responsibilities and Implementation Strategies in Legal Aid’ at the Mohakhali BRAC Centre Auditorium in the capital on Saturday. 

He also said that the government is closely monitoring the issue of rape and incest of madrasa students in Netrokona.

The workshop was organised by the Bangladesh Legal Aid Department and BRAC Social Empowerment and Legal Protection Programme. 

The event was chaired by Director General of Bangladesh Legal Aid Department Manjurul Hossain, and was addressed by Law Secretary Khadem ul Kayes, Deputy Director of Legal Aid Masuda Yasmin, Assistant Director Shaswati Biplob, among others. 

Representatives of various human rights organisations including BLAST, Manusher Jonna Foundation, Ain O Salish Kendra, UNDP and others spoke in the open discussion.

At the event, the minister said, “We want to bring the government legal aid centre to the doorsteps of the people. Our goals and objectives are one and the same. We have to stand by the poor, helpless and marginalised people.”

He said, “If there is any discrimination regarding the anti-discrimination law, we will try to eliminate it. We want to work in parallel.”
