15 killed as truck overturns on east side of Jamuna Bridge

At least 15 people were killed and 10 others injured when the driver of a truck loaded with rods lost control over the steering and overturned on the east side of Jamuna Bridge in Tangail.

The accident occurred in the Saratail area on the east side of Jamuna Bridge early Monday morning.

Officer-in-Charge of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station (Tangail) Fuad Hossain confirmed the casualties.

He said that a North Bengal-bound truck leaving Dhaka reached the Saratail area on the east side of Jamuna Bridge around 5  overturned on the road, killing 15 people on the spot.

The injured have been rescued with the people of the police, fire service and local people and admitted to Tangail General Hospital.

Work is underway to identify the deceased, he added.

Eralier, it is primarily reported that the death toll from the accident was 17. Later, it was revised to 15.
