Attack on RAB camp in Jangal Salimpur, 25 arrested in joint operation

A group of terrorists opened fire on a temporary RAB camp late on Sunday night, destroying the road connection with Jangal Salimpur in Chittagong. 

Although the incident happened late at night, the police, RAB and other joint forces launched a raid as soon as possible at night. 

Twenty to 25 suspects were arrested from Alinagar and are being questioned. Currently, more than 1,000 law enforcement officers are conducting the raid there.

It is known that a large hole was cut into the Salimpur-Alinagar road by a vacuum machine, making it four to five feet wide. Holes were made in this way at three places on the same road in succession, making it unfit for vehicular movement. Then a group of terrorists started firing at the temporary camp of RAB. They demolished the new camp with a bulldozer. The terrorists went on a rampage for two hours.

RAB said that members of the terrorist Yasin force were involved in the attack. Despite various obstacles, including the road being blocked, the law enforcement officers reached Alinagar at night and conducted the operation.

RAB-7 Chittagong commander Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman said that members of the terrorist Yasin force attacked the RAB camp in a planned manner late on Sunday night. 

When the terrorists opened fire on the camp, the RAB members also returned fire in self-defence, he said.

“They blocked the road so that we could not reach the spot quickly. But after receiving the news of the attack, the law enforcement officers quickly reached and stopped the terrorists. At one stage, some terrorists fled from the scene. Some have been arrested. The verification of the detainees is underway” he added.

“A road has led into the hill on the opposite side of the Asian University for Women on the Bayezid-Faujdarhat connection road in Chittagong city. You have to go through that road first to reach Jangal Salimpur. Then you can go to Alinagar. This vast area is being ruled by the Yasin army, occupying 3,100 acres of government and private land,” he narrated.

For the first time, on March 9, law enforcement agencies took control of Jangal Salimpur. It was possible to take control of the area in a joint operation involving about 3,200 members of the army, RAB, police and BGB. 

Earlier, despite several attempts, the law enforcement agencies could not take control of the area. Instead, police and administration officials were attacked during the operation.

After the joint operation of the law enforcement agencies, the government established two training centres for the police and RAB in the area. As part of this, RAB started building a camp in Alinagar. Last night, the terrorists were accused of demolishing that camp. Although 22 people were arrested in the joint operation at that time, Yasin Bahini chief Md. Yasin and Rokon Uddin were not arrested.
