5 killed as private car hits truck filled with cylinders in Faridpur

Five people, including four from same family, were killed when a private car hit the back of a truck filled with cylinders (gas) on Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway. Two more were injured in the incident. 

The accident occurred at around 4:30 am on Tuesday in the Maligram flyover area of Bhanga upazila.

According to fire service and police sources, when a private car heading from Dhaka reached the Maligram area of the expressway, it hit the back of a truck filled with cylinders standing in the same lane. As a result, the private car was twisted, leaving four people dead on the spot and three others injured.

According to fire service sources, family members had gone to pick up Ariful Islam, who had returned home from Malaysia, from Dhaka airport. 

On the way back from the airport to Jessore, the private car carrying them hit the back of a truck in the Maligram flyover area of the Bhanga Expressway. Ariful Islam, his mother Nur Jahan and sister Ayesha Begum died on the spot. Ariful's brother Rakibul Islam died after being rescued and taken to the hospital in his injured condition.

The deceased Nur Jahan was the wife of Shahidul Islam, a resident of Baliadangi village in Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore. The other deceased were their sons Ariful Islam and Rakibul Islam, both expatriates in Malaysia, and daughter Ayesha Begum. 

The private car driver who died in the accident was Zahid Sheikh, a resident of Gouripur village in Monirampur upazila of Jessore.

Abu Jafar, station officer of Bhanga Fire Service, said that after receiving the information, fire service and police members went to the spot and rescued the victims. 

The injured were taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex and from there they were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Later, one of them died while undergoing treatment there.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shibchar Highway Police Station Nur Alam said that four people, including the driver of the private car, died on the spot in the accident. Another injured person later died after being taken to the hospital. 

It is learnt that the four deceased, apart from the driver, were members of the same family. Police said the private car involved in the accident has been recovered. Legal proceedings are underway in the incident.
