Electricity price hiked by Tk1.52 per unit

The retail price of electricity has increased by Tk1.52 per unit while the wholesale price is Tk1.39 per unit. 

The new price will be effective from this June.

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) Chairman Jalal Ahmed confirmed this information on Wednesday.

The Power Development Board (PDB) has requested to increase the wholesale price from Tk1.20(17 percent) to Tk1.50 (21 percent) per unit. 

Among the distribution companies, DESCO has proposed an increase of 9.67 percent, DPDC 6.96 percent, Ojopadiko 10 percent, REB 5.93 percent, NESCO 3 paisa per unit and PDB 29 paisa. 

PGCB (Power Grid Company of Bangladesh) has demanded an increase in transmission charges by 30 paisa and 31 paisa per unit respectively. 

Public hearings were held on the proposals on May 20 and May 21.
